We Were Nerds (not really)

Time flies and before we know it, the meiling street fab 4 has all turned into grown, mature men, blissfully married and with loving families. Thinking back to our “young and wild” days, we engineering students were not considered the hippest in the campus. Heck, we were even considered as “nerds”, just one step above the thick-glasses, thin-haired mad scientists and professors. There were times when all four of us drool over pretty arts/social science girls that dates only athletes or funky art hunks. We the engineering hunks were hidden behind plain t-shirt & jeans, and buried under tons of lecture notes and assignments. At times we enjoyed couple of cheap and diluted alcohol at the el cheapo Guild’s Club, the only in campus disco in the world, and till now we still fondly remember how leong ko got drunk and danced with a horizontally challenged girl, yet insisted she was a beauty when sober in the next morning.
Anyway, fast forward to the present day, though non of us previous nerds have yet to achieve the success equivalent of Bill Gates, Larry Page or Sergey Brin, nonetheless all four of us were considered successful in our own terms, even in highly competitive society like Singapore, Japan and US. Gone were the days when we survived on Maggie mee before exams, gone were the days where we did not order drinks when eating out, even at hawker center right across the street. And the most important thing is that all four of us have married beautiful trophy wives (none of them former art student), and we have proud children that became our new drives in lives. Hats off especially to foon yeh who were, among us, the first father, as well as the father with the most children.
Congratulations guys, I think we have all done well in life so far. Advice to art girls in colleges…behind the plain jeans and t-shirts and thick glasses, lies great treasures awaiting to be explored…muahahaha…

To be fair to some other engineering students. I think there must have been some who were athletic and hip. But they were never good at school anyway. Heh, heh.

If I can go back to those days in NUS, I would make myself to be more like vidko, astain from all distrations, concentrate on study and forget about trying to be make friends in Halls and doing stupid things togo Zouk, Guild House, attending MLM sessions to make friends. I will be much better off today if I spent time to understand reading financial statements, making investments. I can't go back to those days to correct my past, but thank God I got a chance to tell my kid not to ready books on Animal Sex only to become Marketing Manager in future.
